Infantry Units
Musicians
There was a certain number of musicians both in infantry and cavalry of Europe (usually 2 or 3 per company). They were mainly drummers
and flutists in infantry and trumpeters in cavalry. Their main destination was to play signals in a battlefield. Also musicians raised the soldiers'
morale and unity. It is hard to imagine ranks of infantry on march without drum accompaniment in the period of linear tactics. A musician's outfit was
in the first place marked with bright colors - colored stripes on sleeves, wings, etc. A musician was equipped with a sword and sometimes with a pistol,
but with no armor.
